I’dliketoexpressmyownopiniontowardsthisissue.Thebasicmissionofuniversitiesistoconductresearchandprovideeducationbasedonit.Inuniversities,studentscanlearntoimprovetheirself-studyaswellasproblem-solvingability.What’smore,studentsshouldpossessadaptability,oneofthemostimportantskillstoadjustthemselvestotherequirementsoftherealword.Moreover,universitiesshouldprovidestudentswithanenvironmentwheretheycandealwithsomeproblemsthattheywillfaceintheirfuturecareers.

Oct.31,plainandsimple.NotthefirstTuesdayafterthefirstMondayofNovember(that’sElectionDay),notthefourthThursdayinNovember(Thanksgiving),notDecemberthe25th(Christmas).JustthelastdayofOctober.

ButthisSunday,Oct.31,mattersarenotquitesosimple.Acrossthecountry,manypeopleareexcitedaboutthebestdaytodressup.Butinsomecities,residentshavedecidedtocelebrateHalloweenonSaturdaytopreservethepurityoftheChristian,becausetheymustgotochurchonSunday,whileotherswouldratherchoosebetweenHalloweenandcollegefootballwhichisheldonSundayevening.Forresidentsinsomeothercities,theymustmakefullpreparationforthegeneralelectiononthecomingMonday.

Savannah,acityinChathamCountry,alsogivesareason—thedesiretomoveHalloweenoffaschoolnightandmakestudentsbecomeenergeticonMonday.

TheSavannahmayor,OtisS.Johnson,whowasataMondaynewsconferencewhereofficialssuggestedtheswitch,saidthatasalifelongresidentofthecity,hecouldnotrememberanothertimewhensomebodycomplainedaboutHalloweenonaSunday.Buthesaidhesupportedthedecision.

“SundayisthedaywhenChristiansgotochurch,”Mr.Johnsonsaid.“alsoitisaschoolnight.AlthoughforhundredsofyearspeoplecelebrateHalloweenonOctober31,however,ifthedaywasprovedtobeinconvenientforpeople’sdailylife,necessarychangesarefeasibleandbringingHalloweenDayforwardtoSaturdayisasuitablewaytosolvethisproblem.”

ChathamCountryisnotaloneinitsdisobedienceoftheLinusRule.TownsinWashingtonCountry,Oklahoma,willalsobecelebratingHalloweenonSaturday.“AlotofpeopleinthispartofthecountygotochurchonSundaynight,”saidMikeDunlap,acountyofficial.

InJacksonville,Fla.,CityCouncilmanDonRedman,respondingtorequestsfromconstituents,submittedaresolutionaskingresidentstocelebrateHalloweenonSaturday.ButafterpeoplepointedouttohimthattheFlorida-GeorgiafootballgamewouldbeinJacksonvilleonSaturday,hewithdrewtheresolution.“IrealizedthatthemoreIthoughtaboutit,themoredangeroussituationitwouldcreate,”Mr.Redmansaid.

PerhapsthereshouldbeaLucyRule,afterLinusRule’soldersister,whoyanked(猛拉)thefootballmatchawayfromCharlieBrown.TheLucyRulewouldtakecollegefootballrankingsandatown’spopulationintoaccount.ConsiderOxford,Miss.,whereHalloweenwillremainonSaturday.
