Abstract

JaneEyreisanovelwithloveasitstheme.It’sknowntoallthatartcopieslifebutinamoreabstractwaythanthetypicalway.Nodoubt,inJaneEyretherearelotsofromanticcolors,amongwhichtheloveandmarriagebetweenJaneEyreandRochesteristhemostenchantingone.Romanticastheirloveis,thisthesisaimsatdiscussingitsrealisticfeasibilityofthelovebetweentheheroineandthehero:

therighttimeandtherightplacemakethetwomeetandloveeachother.Theyaretheperfectmatchordained.

《简爱》是一部以爱情为主题的小说。

众所周知,艺术源于现实但也高于现实。

《简爱》无疑是一部具有浓厚浪漫主义色彩的小说。

主人公简爱和罗彻斯特的爱情和婚姻更为人所津津乐道。

本文拟从三个方面论证其男女主角浪漫爱情背后的现实可行性:

合适的时间,合适的地点使两人相遇相恋,他们是佳偶天成。

Chapter1Introduction

OfallVictorianliterarynamesnonehassoproveditspowertoexcitecuriosity,stirdramaticimaginations,andevokechatterandpersonaldiscussion,ashasthenameofBronte.AmongthefourimpressivenovelsCharlottewrites,JaneEyreprovestobethemostenduring.

OntheGlobalissuesofliterarycriticismBronteLiterature,JaneEyrehasbeenoneofmostconcernedworksbyscholarsfromvariouscountries.Sincethepublicationofthemagazine“Woman”in1917whichintroducedBrontesisterstoChinesereadersthefirsttime,JaneEyrehasbeenwarmlywelcomebytheagesofChinesereadersandscholars,andcriticismofWesternliteratureinChinahasbecomeahottopicinthattime.TracingcriticismonJaneEyrehistoryinchina,duringthepasthundredyears,itisinthecurrentsurging.

“Marxism,feminism,andChristianculturalstudies,literarycriticismandothernarrativetheoriesfromtheperspectiveoftheirtheoryofJaneEyrehavemadeacertaindepthofresearch,which,undoubtedly,haveachievedalotofusefulresultsinChineseandforeignliteraturehistory.JaneEyrewaswritteninthe1940s,withtheglobaldemocracy,freedom,equality,civilrightsmovementongoing.Notonlythepeoples’classconsciousnesswasawakening,butwomen’ssenseofequalitywithmenwasgraduallyself-awaring.ThenintheliterarycriticismFeministtheoryfollowed.BecauseJaneistherepresentativesoftherebelliousspiritoftheliteraturewithastrongfemalecharacterinBritishliteraryhistory,manydomesticandforeignscholarshavecriticizedthetextfromthefeministperspective.”(LiuYan,2011:

5)Ofcoursetherearesomescholarshavingmadetheirresearchesfromtheperspectiveoflove.ButtheyalwaysfocusonJane’svisionoflove.SometalkaboutwhytheplainandpoorJanecangaintheloveofRochester,payingmuchattentiontothecharmsofJane’scharacters.Sothesestudiesaremostlyone-wayviewtostudythetext,splittingthetexttopieces.

ThemainfocusofthisthesisistodiscusstherealisticfeasibilityofromancebetweenJaneEyreandMr.Rochester.ThedifferenceofthisthesisisthatitstudiesnotonlyJane’scharmingcharacterbutalsosomeotherfactors,suchastime,placeandtheircomplementarycharacter.Thisstudymayleadtoabetterunderstandingofthereasonwhythetwowhosesocialstatusisdifferentcangotogetherinthathierarchicalsociety.Besides,wecansearchfortherelationshipbetweentheauthor’sreallifeandtheheroineJaneEyre.Itishelpfulforustohaveagoodknowledgeoftheauthor,hervisionoflove,andloveandmarriageofherday.Thistextisdividedintosixchapters.ChapterOneisanintroductiontothedomesticandforeignsituationoftheresearch,theinnovationandsignificanceofthisthesis.ChapterTwoissomescholar’sviewsaboutJaneEyre.Inthenextthreechapters,threepointswillbegiventodiscusstherealisticfeasibilityofthelovebetweentheheroineandthehero:

therighttimeandtherightplacemakethetwomeetwithandloveeachother,andfinallytheygetmarried.Theyaretheperfectmatchordained.ChapterSixisaconclusionofthisresearch.
