Thosewhoarguefortheplayingtimeforchildrensuggestthatchildrenataveryearlyagearestilltooyoungtofocustheirattentiononlearning.Theirbrainmaynotbereadyforseriousstudiessuchascomprehensionandmemorizinglearningmaterials.Thesepeoplearepartiallyright,foritistruethatyoungchildrencanhardlyconcentrate.Theirattentionononethinglastsfornolongerthan15minutesorso.Butwecanarrangeclassesforshorterperiods,can’twe?

Andwecanshiftteachingsubjects.Throughputtingthemtostudy,youngchildrenareoccupiedwithlearningbutnotwithplaying.

Thosewhoargueforchildren’searlycommencementforformaleducationbelievethatbeingputtostudies,childrencandevelopgoodhabitofstudying,fortheprocessoflearninghelpsdevelopchildren’smentalabilitiesliketheabilitytomemorize,theabilitytounderstandandtheabilitytodosimplecalculation.Children’shabitofstudyingandloveforlearningareofgreatimportancetoyoungstersbecausethesetwothingssetupthesoundfoundationfortheirfuturestudies.

Havingchildrenstartformaleducationataveryearlyagebenefitsyoungchildrenmuchmorethansimplylettingthemplaymostoftheirtime.Agoodhabitneedsalongtimetodeveloptobecomeasecondnature.Moreimportantly,itisbettertodevelopagoodhabitbeforeabadonemaygrow.Similarly,theloveforlearningshouldtaketootsforbeforetheloveforplayingisestablished.

2Shouldapersonmakesanimportantdecisionalone?

Apersonshouldnevermakeanimportantdecisionalone,importantdecisionsshouldbewellthoughtout.Peoplewhoknowyouwell,knowwhatisbestforyou,andclosetoyoucangiveyougoodadvice,giveyouadifferentperspective,orsharetheirownexperience.

WhenIhaddifficultydecidingwhichclassestotakeincollage,Italkedtomyteachersandadvisors;theyhadtheknowledgeandexpertisetohelpmedeterminewhichclasseswerethebestonestotakeformyfuturecareer.Withouttheiradvice,Imighthavechosenunsuitablecourses.

Incollage,IhadconvincedmyselfthatIwasnotgoodenoughtoactintheschoolplay.Therefore,Idecidednottoauditioneventhoughdramahadalwaysbeenmypassion.Thedayoftheaudition,afriendofmineaskedmewhyIwasnotauditioning.WhenItoldherIdidnotfeelIwasgoodenough,shewasshocked;shewasabletoprovidemewithanotherperspectiveonmyselfandmytalents.Irethoughtmydecisionandtriedout….andgotaleadintheplay.

LastyearwhenIwastryingtodecidewhetherornotIshouldstudyoverseas,Italkedtomyfriend.ThiswasthebestthingIcouldhavedone.ThiswasabigdecisionformebecauseIhadneverbeenoverseasonmyownandIwasnotsureifIcoulddoit.Shehadstudiedoverseasthepreciousyear.ShetoldmeaboutthechallengesandopportunitiesImightencounterandhelpedmemaketherightdecision.Iwentanditwasamazing.

WheneverIamfacedwithanimportantdecision,IseekadvicefromotherssothatIamwell-informedandhavethebenefitoftheirperspectiveandexperience.

3Myopiniononadvertisement

Advertisementsappeareverywhereinmodernsociety.Therearemanywaytoadvertiseandadscomeindifferentforms.Newspapersandbillboardscarryadvertisements;someproductsareannouncedonTVandradiowhichhaveawideaudience.Advertisingisabigindustryandmanyagenciesaresetupforfurnishavarietyofservicesforit.

However,advertisingisnotwelcomesometimes.AmostirritatingthingistowatchadvertisementsbeforeandduringfilmsonTV.Therearesomanyofthemthattheymakeyouforgetwhatyouaresittingtherefor.Theironicalthingisthatadvertisementsofonetypeofthingsareoftenshownoneafteranothersothatyouareconfusedastowhichproductyoushouldchoose.What’smore,advertisingisnotalwaystruthful.Theadvertisersexaggeratethebenefitsofthemerchandisetheywanttosellinordertogainmoreprofits.Thustheconsumerfallsvictimtosuchadvertising.

Althoughtherearedisadvantagesofads,wecannotforgettheadvantagesandtheconveniencestheybringtous.First,bytellinguswheresomethingisavailable,theymaysaveusmoneyandtime.Theyguideusinfindingsuitablejobsandotherinformationaswell.Secondly,awiderangeofactivitiesandinstitutionsreceivefinancialsupportthroughadvertising.Withoutthissupportwewouldhavetopaymuchmorefornewspapersandsportsgames.Thirdly,perfectadvertisementsevenprovideentertainment.Aconsiderableamountofeffortgoesintotheirproduction.Soinmostcasesthephotographyistrulyartistic,theslogansaregenuinelywitty,andthesituationsaredecidedlyfunny.

Generallyspeaking,advertisementshavebecomeoneofthemostauthoritativevoicesspeakingtoustoday.Letusmakeourlifeeasierbylearningtochooseproperads,andbethemasterofadvertisements,nottheirsalve.

4Livinginuniversitydormitoriesorapartmentsinthecommunity?

Ithinkitisbetterforcollegestudentstoliveoncampusduringtheirfirsttwoyears,andthenmoveintoanapartmentforoff-campuslife,whilejuniorsandseniorsneedtheindependenceofoff-campuslife.Student’sneedschangeoverfouryears,sotheirhousingshouldtoo.

Livingon-campusmakesiteasiertogetorientedtothewaythingsaredone.Yougetthewholeuniversityexperience.Plus,youinteractmorewithotherstudents.Thisincludesnotonlyyourroommates,buteveryoneinyourdormitory.Theolderstudentsinthedormitorycanbeabighelpforthenewstudents.Keepingupwithstudiesinyourfirstyearishardenough.Youshouldnothavetoworryaboutfindingyourwayaroundandfiguringouttheuniversitybureaucracy.

Livinginthedormitoryalsomakesastudentfeelmoreapartoftheuniversitycommunity.Therearemoreopportunitiesforbecominginvolvedinuniversityactivitiesandnetworkingwithstudentsanduniversityadministration.

Livingoff-campus,however,isadefiniteadvantageforolderstudents.Findinganapartment,dealingwithleasesandthelandlord’sregulations,cookingmeals,andfiguringoutbudgetsareallgoodpracticeforlifeaftergraduation.Thiskindofindependencehelpsolderstudentsgrowinadulthood.

Off-campushousingalsogivesstudentsabetterperspectiveonwhatisgoingonaroundthem.Campuscanbelikelittleworldsoftheirown.Therearefewchildrenorolderpeopleandeveryoneisfocusedoneducation.Gettingtoknowneighborswhoarenotstudentsisgoodforstudentscomingfromdifferenceplaces.Itisachancetofindoutwhatotherpeoplethinkandfeel.

Ithinkacombinationoftwoyearson-campusandtwoyearsoff-campusisawinningcombinationformoststudents.

5Providingphysicalexercisesshouldnotbetheschoolsresponsibility?

Whilephysicalexerciseisimportant,Idonotbelievethatitistheschool’sresponsibilitytoprovidephysicaltrainingforitsstudents.Thatissomethingthateveryonecantakecareofonhisorherown.

Manystudentsgetplentyofphysicalexerciseaspartoftheirdailylifeorrecreation.Astudentwhobicyclestenmilestoandfromschooldoesnotneedmoreexercise.Agoodphysicaleducationprogrammusttakeastudent’soutsideactivityintoconsideration.Otherwise,somestudentswillspendvaluableclasshoursrepeatingphysicalexercise.

Ifaschoolofferssuchactivities,italsosuggeststhatstudentswillbegradedonthem.Therangeofpossiblephysicalactivitiesisgreat:

football,swimming,weightlifting,ballet,ballroomdance,yoga,skiing,horsebackriding,andgolfarejustafew.However,thenumberofactivitiesthataschoolcouldofferissmall.Somestudentscouldgetbadgradesinphysicaleducationsimplybecausetheschoolcouldnotprovideanactivitytheyenjoyordowell.Thisseemsunfair.Researchsuggeststhatparticipation,notexcellence,intheseactivitiesdeterminesthephysicalbenefitsthebodywillget.

Anotherissueiseconomic.Manyschoolsdonothavethemoneytoprovidegymfacilities,playingfields,andathleticequipmentfortheirstudent.Otherschoolsarelocatedincitieswherethekindofspacejustisnotavailable.Afewschoolswouldratherkeepmoneyforacademicpurposes.

Schoolscancertainlyencouragephysicalactivity.Theycanprovidespaceforactivities,events,andclassesforphysicalactivities.Theycanencouragestudentstoplantimeawayfromacademicstudiestogetsomeexercise.However,Ithinkthatprovidingexerciseshouldnotbetheschoolsresponsibility.

6Themostimportantcharacteristic

Althoughhonesty,intelligence,andasenseofhumorareallworthwhilecharacteristics,Ifeelthemostimportantoneinlifetohaveissensitivity.Asensitivepersonisawareifhim/herselfandthewaytheiractionsaffectothers.Asensitivepersonknowstheplaceofhonesty,intelligence,andasenseofhumor.

Honestyisnotalwaysthebestpolicy.Thereissuchathingasawhitelie.Youdonotwanttoinsultsomeonebysayingthattheirnewdressdoesnotfitproperlyorthatyouwouldnotliveintheirnewhouseeveniftheypaidyou.Youmustbesensitivetowhenitisnecessarytotellthetruthandwhenitisbettertotellawhitelie.

Intelligenceisawonderfulthingtohave,butnotallintelligentpeopleusetheirintelligencesensitively.Youdon’twanttothereactionofthepeoplearoundyou.Itmightbe
