Gamble,marketvariousproductsunderindividualbrandnames,withtheresultthatmanycustomersareunfamiliarwiththenameofthemanufacturingcompany.Themajorproducersofsoappowders,forexample,arefamousfortheirmulti-brandstrategywhichallowsthemtocompeteinvariousmarketsegments,andtofillshelfspaceinshops,therebyleavinglessroomforcompetitors.Italsogivesthemagreaterchanceofgettingsomeofthecustomofbrand-switchers.
