Intheearly1990s,StaffanLindebergfromLundUniversityinSwedentravelledtoPapuaNewGuineatostudythedietofthepeopleontheislandofKitavaasthiswasveryclosetotheStoneAgediet,thatis,thefoodpeopleatemanythousandsofyearsagobeforehumansstartedfarming.Whilethere,hefoundthatthepeopledidnotsufferfrom(患有)heartattacks,diabetes(糖尿病),beingoverweightandmanyotherdiseasescommoninwesterncountries.

Asaresultofhisfindings,hedecidedtotestpatientsinSwedentoseehowsuchadietwouldinfluencethem.FourteenpatientsfollowedaStoneAgedietwhileanotherfifteenfollowedaMediterraneandiet.Allofthepatientsinthetestshadhighbloodsugarlevels,mostsufferedfromdiabetesandtheyallhadsomeproblemswiththeirhearts.

Attheendofthreemonths,thegroupfollowingtheMediterraneandiethadreduced(减少) 

theirbloodsugarlevelsbyasmallamountbutthosefollowingtheStoneAgediethadmuchlowerlevelsofsugarintheirblood.Thepatientsinbothgroupsalsolostweightalthoughthelevelofsugarinthebloodandthepatients’weightdidn’tseemtoberelated.

In1302and1323,twostrongearthquakeshitAlexandria,damagingthelighthouse.In1326,itfinallyfellintothesea.MuchofwhatweknowaboutthelighthousecomesfromthewritingsofArabswhooncevisitedthePharos.

ThePharoswasabout384feettall,thesameheightasamodern40-storybuilding.AtthetopofthelighthousestoodalargestatueofPoseidon,theGreekgodofthesea.Under

wasabeacon,thesourceoflightforthelighthouse.ThePharosusedtwokindsofbeacons.Atnight,alargefirecreatedthelight.Duringtheday,ahugemirrormadeuseofthesunlighttocreatethelight.

Itwassaidthatthemirrorwasalsousedtosetenemyshipsonfireastheyenteredtheharborbydirectingthesun’srays(sunlight)atthem.Whiletheideaisinteresting,itisalsoclearlyimpossible.
