Objectives:

2)learntoreadpassagesforthefirsttimeunderstandingthegeneralideaandforthesecondtimefindingoutthedetailsandtheanswerstothequestions.
3)masterthekeylanguagepointsandgrammaticalstructuresinthetext;
4)conductaseriesofreading,listening,speakingandwritingactivitiesrelatedtothethemeoftheunit.
2.教学的主要内容
1)Importantwordsandlanguagepointsinthetext
performconcentrateignoreassignrecallessentialdueschedulestretchrelevantcontentretainparticipateintellectualeconomicsapproachakethemostofcountforputincutdownonsticktoleadtoputdownputaway
2)Writingtechnique
Thetypeofthiswritingisanexposition.
Thistextisatypical“how-to-do-thingsessay”.Thiskindofarticleisusuallydividedintotwoparts:
Part1,theimportanceofdoingthis;Part2,theconcretemethodsorproceduresofdoingit.Andthesecondpartisthemainbodyofthearticle.
Generallyspeaking,there’satopicsentenceatthebeginningofthetexttoexpressthethesisandaconclusivesentenceintheend.
Inthistext,aftertheexamplesatthebeginning,theauthortellsusthetopicsentence“Thestudentsatthetopoftheclassgettherebymasteringafewbasictechniquesthatotherscaneasilylearn.”.Tomatchthetopicsentence,theauthorgivesustheconclusionsentence“Afterall,thesecretsofAstudentsarenotsosecret.YoucanlearnandmasterthemandbecomeanAstudent,too.

Gradingisjustameansforteacherstomeasureandassessstudentsstudy.Thereusuallyaretwogradingsystem:
thefive-grade-markingsystemandpercentagescales.(五分制和百分制)Schools,collegesanduniversitiesinGreatBritainandtheUnitedStatescommonlyuselettergradestoindicatethequalityofastudent’sacademicperformance:
A(excellent),B(good),C(average),D(belowaverage),andF(failing).IntheUnitedStates,workratedCoraboveisusuallyrequiredofanundergraduatestudenttocontinuehis/herstudies;workratedBorhigherisusuallyrequiredofagraduatestudenttocontinue.Inpercentagescales,100percentisthehighestmark,and70percent(or65percent)isusuallythelowestpassingmark.

CambridgeisacityinEnglandandthehomeofCambridgeUniversity.CambridgeliesontheRiverCam,about50milesnorthofLondon.Ithasrapidlygrowingmanufacturingindustriesonitsoutskirts,manyofthemcloselyassociatedwiththeuniversity’sfamousscientificlaboratories.CambridgeUniversityisnotedforscholarshipinmodernliteratureandscience,especiallynuclearphysicsandastronomy.Theuniversity’sbuildingsarenotedfortheirfinearchitecture.

BristolUniversityisoneofthefinestengineeringandscienceschoolsinGreatBritain.TheUniversityislocatedinBristol,oneofthemostattractivelargecitiesinEngland.Thecitywasfoundedalmost1,000yearsagoandsoonafterbecamethesecondcityinEngland.ItslongandvariedhistoryhasleftBristolalegacyoflovelybuildings,amongwhichisitsmanymedievalchurches.
(6)UniversityofCaliforniaatBerkeley
LocatedinnorthernCaliforniaacrosstheBayfromSanFrancisco,theUniversityofCaliforniaatBerkeleyisoneoftheworld’smostrespectedandpremieruniversities.Renownedforitscuttingedgeideasanddiversefaculty,Berkeleyhasover33,000studentsinavarietyofdisciplines.
