为了要防范那些混入教会当眼线的人，用洗礼来宣示自己的信仰，使那些想当眼线的人不能隐藏身份。

另外一点，就是洗礼的时候，都必须公开宣告说耶稣就是生命的主。

使徒保罗强调说：

如果你口里宣认耶稣为主，心里信上帝使他从死里复活，就会得救。

因为我们心里这样信，就得以成为义人，口里这样宣认，就会得救。

因此，教会传承了这个远古信仰礼仪直到今天。

不论洗礼的传承是甚么，最重要的一点，就是受洗的信徒必须有非常诚实的态度，透过洗礼来作为生命的告白。

表示自己愿意一生的时间跟随耶稣，无论在甚么境遇、情况之下，都愿意公开承认耶稣就是他的生命救主。

如果没有这样的信仰认知和态度，不论是几岁受洗、给谁施洗，都没有甚么特别的意义。

一个人是否得救？

这要问上帝，而不是看洗礼与否，这一点是必须要弄清楚的。

因为一个人是否得救，决定的主权在上帝，不是在人施洗的手上。

当犹太人在强调没有接受割礼，就不能得救时，有很多基督徒就像这样强调说，没有受洗就不能得救。

但我想使徒保罗说：

受割礼或是不受割礼都算不了甚么；重要的是我们要成为新造的人。

他这句话也可以用在洗礼的事上，只要将割礼改成洗礼就对了。
