IPurposeandDescriptionoftheTest
Purposeofthetest:
thisEnglishtestisdesignedforjuniorThreestudentsattheir
beginningofthenewterm.ThisisaninformaltestthatisdesignedtoevaluatetowhatdegreethejuniorthreestudentshasachievedinEnglishaftertwoyears’learninginjuniorschool.ItisalsoexpectedthatthetestresultscanhelpEnglishteacherstomodifytheirteachingplaninthefollowingmonths.Allthestudentswhoarejuniorthreecantakethetest.Thetestaimsattestingstudents’reading,grammar,writingskills.ThistestisservedforstudentswhoaregoingtotakeNationalCollegeEntranceExam.therefore,thetestingitemsareinaccordancewithNationalCollegeEntranceExamEnglishtestingitems.Themarksoflisteningsectionarenotcalculatedtofinalresults.So,listeningsectionareexcludedinthistest.

Testtakersshouldmasterthefollowingknowledgeandskills:
(1)languageknowledge
vocabulary:
testtakersareexpectedtoknow3000Englishwordsandexpressions.Excepttheirbasicmeanings,theyshouldalsobefamiliartotherelationshipsbetweenwords,likesynonyms,antonymsandsoon.Thecollocationrelationsbetweenwordslikeverb-preposition,adjective-preposition,adjective-nouncollocationsshouldbemastered.Inaddition,testtakersshouldknowabouttheformationofwordsandcanrecognizewhatisroot,stem,affixetc.Thatis,testtakersshouldhavemasteredmostofthewordstheylearnedfromprimaryschooltojuniorschool.
Grammar:
testtakersaresupposedtoknowgeneralgrammar,likesentencetypeandstructure,wordclass,tenseandvoiceandsoon.Thistestcontainsgrammarsection,tenitemsoffifteenmarksareincluded.
(2)Languageskills
readingskills
Candidatesarerequiredtocomprehendallkindsoftextswhichcomefromvariousbooks,magazines,newspapers.Therearesomenewwordsinthereadingmaterials,butnotmorethan5%ofthewholetext.Testtakersshouldgetthemainideaofeachtextquicklyandcorrectly.Theyaresupposedtoimplythemeaningofsomenewwordsandthewriter’spointofviewaccordingthecontext.Theyalsoneedtoknowthestructureofthattext,liketherelationshipofparagraphsandsentences.Theabilityofinferringaswellasunderstandingtextualcohesionandcoherenceundertimedconditionsisgoingtobemeasured.Theskillsliketherefore,scanning,skimmingarenecessary.

Testtakersshouldbeabletowritedifferenttypesofpracticalwritings,likeletters,notice,application,reportandsoon.Sometimes,theyneedtowriteexpositionorargumentation.Duringthewriting,testtakersshouldbecarefultotheirspelling,grammar,thechoiceofwords.Wrongspelling,grammar,improperwordswillmakethemlosemarks.Wrongformofthattypewillalsocauselowmarks.Writersshouldkeeptheircompositioncoherentandfluent.
BecausethelisteningandspeakingskillsarenotemphasizedinCollegeEntranceExam,thistestexcludethesetwoskills’measurement.

ThissectionconsistofA,B,C,Dfourtexts.TheGenreortopicofeachtextisdifferent.Aftereverytext,thereareseveralmultiplechoicequestions(4options)tobefinished.Thefirstthreetextshavefouritemsrespectively.Thefinalhasthreeitems.Thereare15itemsinthissection,everyitemis2marks.Totally,itis30marks.

errorcorrecting
Testtakersareprovidedastudent’scomposition.Thereareseveralerrorsinthecompositionwhichneedtobefindoutandmodified.Usually,tenplacesarewrong.Candidatesfindingouttheerrorsandusingproperformstomodifythemcangetmarks.Totally,therearetenerrorsandtenmarks.

Candidateisgivenatopicorapicture.Heorsheshouldwriteashortessayintermsofthattopic.Thecandidateisexpectedtoproducecoherentandmeaningfultextsusingappropriateformat,registerandstyle,grammaticalstructuresandvocabulary.Candidateshouldwriteabout120words.Thefullmarksare25marks.Judgesgivemarksaccordingtothespelling,ideas,grammar,structureandsoon.Thefollowingisadetailedratingscaleofthissection.
