GuangdongProvinceandShanghai,butwascappedat300yuan.Studentsliving

oncampuspaidabout20yuanperyearforaccommodationandthechargewas

slightly

higher

forbetter

furnishing.

Normal

school

students

and

those

admitted

onscholarships

needonly

payfor

accommodation.Reducedtuitions

and

fees

are

available

to

students

in

need

of

financial

assistance,

but

accommodationexpenseswillremainthesame.

InJune1992,theStateEducationCommission,theMinistryofFinance

andtheStatePriceBureaudecidedtoallowregularinstitutionsofhigher

educationtosettheirowntuitionratesandchargesforaccommodation,short

programs,correspondence

Theseshould

bedeterminedaccording

to

the

needsof

eachschool,

the

abilities

of

students

topayandgeneralconditionsineacharea.Thetuitionforstudentsinthe

sciencesandengineeringcanrangefrom300to500yuanperacademicyear.

Liberalarts,historyandeconomicsstudentsofthefineartspay400to600

yuanperyear,andstudentsofthefinearts400to750yuan.Statisticsfor
