Informationaboutthisdocument

Afabricconformingtotherequirementsofthisstandarddoesnotalwayswithstandexposuretolargesourcesofheat,butitwouldhavesomeresistancetoflamespreadfollowingaccidentalcontactwithsmallsourcesofignition.

TheflammabilityrequirementsgiveninthispartofBS5867havebeenselectedaftercarefulconsiderationofthestatisticalinformationconcerninghazardtolifeinthoseincidentswherecurtainsanddrapeshavebeenidentifiedasthematerialfirstignited.

Threesetsofperformancerequirementshavebeenincludedsothatthemostimportantonecanbeselectedforaspecificenduse.

Presentationalconventions

Theprovisionsofthisstandardarepresentedinroman（i.e.upright）type.Itsrequirementsareexpressedinsentencesinwhichtheprincipalauxiliaryverbis“shall”.

1Scope

ThispartofBS5867specifiesflammabilityrequirementsforfabricsandfabricassembliesforuseintheproductionofnon-domesticcurtains,drapesandwindowblindsandforfinishedarticlesincludingcombinationsofcurtainsandliningswhentestedbythemethodsspecifiedinBSENISO6941andBSENISO15025.

Fabricsaretestedbeforeanycleansingprocedure,toassessthemintheforminwhichtheyaremostcommonlyused.

TheproceduresspecifiedinBSENISO10528,BSEN1021-1andBS5651providesuitablemethodsofcleansingorwetting.

Wherecurtainsordrapesaretobeproducedinamulti-layerfabricconstruction,itisessentialtotestthefabricsinthecombinationinwhichtheyaretobeused.

Sampling

Asampleshallbetakenofsufficientsizetoprovidetherequiredtestspecimensfromeachfinishingbatchorfromatleastevery5000m.

NOTE1Iftestingisrequiredatintervalsatlessthan5000mitshouldbeagreedbetweenthepurchaserandthesupplier.

Retestingshallbecarriedoutwherethereisanymajoralterationtoafabricspecification,e.g.offibrecontent,flameretardantfinishormassperunitareaoffabric；

orchangeofmaterialsmanufacturer.

NOTE2Changesinthecolour（wherethefabricwasflameretardantfinishedinthesamebatch）ofthefabricorminorchangesinthepatternorweave,e.g.oftheorderof2picks/cm,isnotsufficientreasontonecessitateretesting.

Durability

Allfabricsshallbetestedwithoutanycleansingprocedure.ThesampleshallalsobesubmittedtotheappropriatecleansingorwettingprocedurespecifiedinBSENISO10528,BSEN1021-1orBS5651,dependingonthespecifiedperformanceortheinformationgivenonthecareofthefabric（e.g.onthecarelabel）.

Durabilitytocommerciallaundryprocessesshallbedemonstratedbysatisfactorytestingafterbeingsubjectedto12cyclesofstandardwashinginaccordancewithBSENISO10528.

DurabilitytodrycleaningprocessesshallbedemonstratedbysatisfactorytestingafterbeingsubjectedtoawatersoakasspecifiedinBSEN1021-1-2006,AnnexDand6cyclesofdrycleaningaccordingtoBS5651.

Ifthefabricistobelabelledasbeingunsuitableforcleansingbyanymethod（e.g.disposableproductscouldbesodescribed）,thewatersoakingprocedurespecifiedinBSEN1021-1*2006,AnnexDshallbecarriedout.

Incertaincasesnon-durablefinishesmightbeemployedtomeettheperformancerequirementsofClause6,theseshallnotbesubjecttocleansing.However,ifsuchnon-durablefinishesareused,thefabricshallbeclearlylabelledasfollows-

6Testproceduresandrequirements

6.1General

Asetofperformancerequirementsasspecifiedin6.2,6.3,or6.4shallbeselectedasappropriateforthespecifiedenduse.

NOTEUndertheRegulatoryReform（FireSafety）Order2005[1]thechoiceofperformanceanddurabilityrequirementsisadecisiontobemadebythenominatedresponsiblepersonaccountableforthefiresafetyofthepremisesanditscontents.

6.2Type"

A”performancerequirements

6.2.1Allfabricsshallbetestedpriortoanycleansingprocedure.Exceptwherespecifiedthattestingafteranapprovedcleansingorwettingprocedureisunnecessary,allfabricsshallbetestedafterbeingsubjectedtotheappropriateprocedurespecifiedinClause5.

NOTEFortestingaftercleansingitispermissibletopreparetheindividualtestspecimensfromalargersamplewhichhasbeencleansed.

Inallcases,onlythefaceofthefabricshallbetested,ifthisisapparent.Alternativelyonlythatfacewhichisshownbypre-testingtospreadflameorspreadflamefastershallbetested.

Forcombinationsofcurtainsandlinings,thefaceofbothfabricsshallbetested,i.e.thefrontandbackofthecombination.

6.2.2ThetestmethodsasdescribedinBSENISO6941-2003,Procedure"
