Tuandhercolleaguesjoinedagovernmentprojecttofindanewmalariadruginthelate1960sduringthe“culturalrevolution”(1966~1976).Theymade380herbalextracts(草药提取物)from200potentialrecipes.TherecipescamefromtraditionalChinesemedicalbooks.Theteamthentestedthemonmalaria-infectedmice.FinallyTubecameinterestedinanextractoftheplantqinghao,orsweetwormwood(青蒿).
