AccordingtoDr.RobDavies,SouthAfricanMinisterofTradeandIndustry,theAfricancontinentisrecognizedasthesecondfastestgrowingcontinentafterAsia.TherearefourdriversoftheeconomicgrowthinAfricancontinent.ThesearetheboominmineralproductsintheAfricancontinent,thedevelopmentoftheserviceindustries,thebenefitofnothavingthefinancialcrisis,andinfrastructure(基础设施)development.DaviesalsoaddsthatotherBRICScountrieshaveadvantageoflargepopulationsprovidingbighomemarketsfortheirproducts.TheSouthAfricanpopulationissmallcomparedtootherBRICScountries,butifyouaddupnumbersoncontinentthenyouhaveacriticalmassthatcansupportthenewindustrialwaveinAfrica:
