Notlongafterourfirstexchanges,Monica’smother,Regine,wrotetome.Regine’sEnglishwasalittlebetterthanMonica,soshewasabletoprovidemoredetailsabouttheirlifein Vienna.ShealsomentionedthatsheandherhusbandMichaelwereplanningtheirfirstvisittothe US.Asmotorcyclelovers,theyintendedtomakeatwo-wheeledtourof California andtheSouthwesternstates.ShewonderedifIcouldtellhersomethingthatIthoughttheyshouldknowbeforetheybegantheirgreatadventure.

IspentaboutanhourputtingtogetherwhatIconsideredreasonablypracticaladviceandsentitalong.Reginewrotebackwiththanks,andtoldmeifIcameto Vienna,IshouldconsidertheGottliebfamilyhomeasmyown.Sheevenofferedmebotharoomandakeytothehouse.
