Irvingreallywantedtofly,butflightschoolwasexpensive.Toachievehisdream,heworkeddifferentjobs.Hewashedairplanesandcleanedswimmingpools.Athome,hepracticedflyingonavideogame.Intheend,hegotenoughmoneyforflightschool.

Atflightschool,Irvingachievedhisdreamoflearninghowtofly.Buthewasn’tfinished.Next,heplannedtobuildhisownplaneandflyalonearoundtheworld.

Buildingtheplanewasdifficult.Irvingaskedmorethan50companiesforairplaneparts.Mostsaidno,buthepersisted(顽强地坚持)inasking.Threeyearslater,hehadpartsworth$300,000.Columbia,anairplanecompany,agreedtobuildaplaneusingtheparts.Soon,hisairplanewasreadytofly.
