Thefindingscouldhelpimprovepublichealthstrategiesinthefightagainstthespreadofinfectiousdiseasesworldwide.Thestudycouldalsohelpeducatepeopleonhowtheinfectionswetrytoavoideachwinterspread.

Manyofthesurfaceswetouchonadailybasisharborandcanspreadgerms.Butairtravelisknowntoacceleratetheworldwidespreadofdiseases.

"Thepresenceofbacteriaintheenvironmentofanairporthasnotbeeninvestigatedpreviously,''saidNiinaIkonen,whowasinvolvedinthestudy.Sheaddedthattheresultsprovidednewideasfortechnicalimprovementsinairportdesignandrefurbishment（翻新）.

Theresultsofthestudydidnotprovethatthevirusesfoundcancausedisease.Butpreviousresearchhadprovedthatbacteriacansurviveonvarioussurfacesforseveraldays.
