ThecurrentlocationoftheSedlecOssuarywasoriginallyacemetery．In1278，theheadmasterofSedlecpaidavisittotheHolyLand，andonhisreturn，hebroughtbackahandfulofearthfromGolgotha，theareawhereJesusisthoughttohavebeencrucified（钉在十字架上）．Theheadmasterspreadthesoilinthecemeteryandwordwentaroundthattheplacewasblessed．Soon，peoplefromalloverEuropewantedtobeburiedthere．Inthe15thcentury,thecemeterywasnearlyoutofplace，sotomakeroomfornewcomers，someoftheolderboneswereremovedfromthecemeteryandstoredinanossuarytheybuilt．Atthetime，however,thebonesweremerelypiledupandnotcarefullyarranged．
