第八章汉语无主句的翻译

翻译汉语无主句，可根据上下文添加主语，也可转换句子结构，译为英语中的被动句、“Therebe”句型、倒装句或祈使句。

一、译为被动句

无主句中动词带有宾语，而且宾语比较短小，可以译为英语的被动句，利用汉语原句中的宾语作为被动句的主语。

1.有效保护儿童权利。

Therightofchildrenshouldbeeffectivelyprotected.

2.继续改善居民住房条件。

Housingconditionsshouldbecontinuouslyimproved.

3.进一步深化国有企业改革。

ReformofState-ownedenterpriseswillbedeepened.

4.支持、鼓励和引导私营、个体企业尤其是科技型中小企业健康发展。

Thesounddevelopmentofprivateenterprises,especiallysmallandmedium-sizedscienceandtechnologyenterprises,willbesupported,encouragedandguided.

二、增添主语

可以添加we,one,you等泛指的代词来作为无主句的主语，使之成为英语中的完整的句子。

动词宾语较长，或者存在多个宾语，一般采用添加主语的方法处理。

1.全面发展同其他发达国家的友好合作与交流。

Wewilldevelopourfriendlycooperationandpromoteexchangesintheall-roundwaywithotherdevelopedcountries.

2.应当鼓励国内外投资者到中西部投资。

WeshouldencouragebothChineseandoverseasinvestorstoinvestinthecentralandwesternregions.

We在处理汉语无主句时最为常用，以上都是以We作为主语。

7.没有调查就没有发言权。

三、译为复合结构

英语中有很多动词词组，如努力（makeeffortsto）、注意（payattentionto）、强调（layemphasison）、使用（makeuseof）、重视（attachimportanceto）、安排（makearrangementsto）等，对于有这些动词的无主句，可以从动词入手构句，将词组中的名词作为主语，利用被动语态成句，如effortsmusttobemadetodo。

1.应当注意采取有效措施防止空气污染。

Attentionshouldbepaidtotheeffectivemeasurestopreventairpollution.

2.优先发展科技教育。

Prioritywillbegiventodevelopmentofscience,technologyandeducation.

3.必须特别强调我国某些高级政府官员腐败的严重性。

4.必须适当地使用国家的森林资源。

四、译为存在句、祈使句或其他特殊句型

采用句型itisnecessary（essential,imperative,important,etc.）todo来构句。

1.要促进人和自然的协调与和谐。

Itisnecessarytoenhancebalanceandharmonybetweenmanandnature.

汉语中的某些格言、经验，或带有哲理的无主句，翻译时一般可采用“Therebe”结构。

2.总之，是两个方面，而不是一个方面。

Inshort,therearetwoaspects,notjustone.

3.没有顺利，无所谓困难；没有困难，也无所谓顺利。

Withoutfacility,therewouldbenodifficulty;withoutdifficulty,therewouldalsobenofacility.

汉语中表示请求、命令、号召及标语、口号等的无主句，可仿照英语中的同类句式来译，即采用祈使句式。

4.为建设一个现代化的社会主义强国而奋斗。

汉语中有些表示事物存在、出现或消失的无主句，结构形式与英语的倒装句十分相似，因此，汉译英时用倒装语序往往十分得体。

5.地下埋藏着大量的矿物质。

Hiddenundergroundisawealthofminerals.

无主句有两个分句构成时，两句之间关系紧密，可以利用“全句贯通法”，即把第一个分句处理为名词结构作为主语。

6.要坚持党的领导，必须改善党的领导。

ToupholdtheParty’sleadershipcallsforimprovingitsleadership.

该句把前分句“要坚持党的领导”译为不定式结构作为主语，后分句中“改善党的领导”译为ing分词作为宾语，两者用callfor连接成句。

7.要开发中国广阔的西部地区，需要处理好经济发展和人口控制的关系。

译文1.被动句
