37.theman（theMan）大哥；厉害的人

A：

应该不会再有问题了。

B：

You'vegotittakencareofjustlikethat?

You'retheman.你这样（一下子）就搞好了啊！

大哥真是厉害！

"You'retheman!

"这个口语蛮可爱的。

而且对象不一定要是男生，只要是有人作了一件很厉害的事，你就可以好象很崇拜地拍拍他（她）的肩膀说"You'retheman."（美国人说这句话说，常常会把"man"这个字的尾音拉的长长的，听起来很可爱。

）

38.onthenose（时间的）整点；完全

A：

Whattimeisit,honey?

甜心，现在几点啦？

B：

It'ssixpmonthenose.晚上六点整。

"onthenose"除了当时间整点外，还有“完全”（=exactly）的意思。

好比你的心事被一个朋友看透了。

你就可以对他说"Yourguesswasrightonthenose."（你的猜测完全正确。

）

39.onthespot让（某人）在压力下作决定；当场

A：

So,whatdoyousay,Hubert?

Shouldwestayorleave?

那么...Hubert,你说我们该待在这里,还是走掉呢?

B：

Hey!

Don'tputmeonthespot.HowshouldIknow?

嘿，别让我一个人作决定呀，我哪知道啊。

想象这样的情形：

一群人在等迟迟还不出现的李四，正当大家正在烦恼到底要不要再等下去时，忽然有一个人问你“我们该继续等还是走了呢？

”。

这时众人的眼光聚集在你的身上，一定让你让你觉得压力很大。

这种类似被揪出来成为焦点的感觉，就是这里的"beputonthespot"。

"onthespot"的另一个用法是“当场”的意思。

好比你送车进厂检修，修车厂的人找到问题后，马上当场帮你把车修好，就是"Theyfixedyourcaronthespot."

40.Waytogo!

作得好！

加油！

Daisy,keepyourhandsup...Waytogo.Verygood.Daisy，双手保持抬高。

就是这样，很好！

小时候学琴的时候，老师常常要提醒我要把双手抬高（使手与琴键平行）。

当然她当时不是跟我说"Waytogo."啦。

不过当小朋友在学一件新的东西时，常常鼓励他们是很好的事。

"Waytogo."是"That'sthewaytogo."的缩写，是用来告诉一个人他作得很好，请继续保持。

有一点像中文里的“加油”的意味。

是一个常常在一些竞赛活动（球赛、赛车等）中都可以听到的俚语哦。

41.armpit脏而令人不舒服的地方

A：

Oh,man.Thisroomisanabsolutearmpit!

When'sthelasttimeyoucleanedthisplace?

唉呀，老兄，这个房间真是脏得不象话。

你上回打扫房间是什么时候哇？

B：

Thelasttimemymomwashere.上次我妈来的时候。

"armpit"其实是“腋窝”的意思。

可能对美国人来说，这个地方是“汗水”、“污垢”聚集的地方，所以在俚语里，"armpit"就被用来形容“脏的令人不舒服的地方”吧。

42.buns屁屁

A:

Hey!

Whatareyoudoingstaringatthatgirl'sbuns?

嘿，你眼睛瞪着那个女孩子的屁股看干什么？

B：

I'mnot.Ijustliketheskirtshe'swearing.我没有呀。

我只是喜欢她穿的那件裙子。

"bun"本来是“圆形面包”的意思，不过二个“圆形面包”（buns）一起是否跟屁屁看起来有点像呢？

还有一个很有意思，也是由"bun"的形状衍生而来的俚语是"haveabunintheoven"。

这个俚语按字面上看来好象是“有个面包在烤箱里”，不过它真正的意思是指“怀孕”。

所以当要表示“Sally正在怀孕中”，我们就可以说"Sallyishavingabunintheoven."。

这个应该在形状上和意义上都蛮贴切的喔。

43.pissed（off）非常生气

A：

AreyouangryatNancybecauseshekeptyourvideotoolong?

你生Nancy的气是因为她太久才还你录像带吗？

B：

No.Ilenthermyfavoritetapeandsherecordedoverit.Thatreallypissedmeoff.不是。

我借给她我最喜欢的带子，结果她在上面录东西。

那倒真的让我很生气。

"pissedoff"是“很生气”的意思，在程度上要比"angry"强烈。

"I'msopissedoffatyou."就是“我对你很生气”的意思。

"piss"其实是“尿尿”的意思（=pee）。

从这里也可以看出来这不是个很高雅的词语，即使很多人都用，而且包括女生。

但严格地说，如果是在需要"watchyourlanguage"（小心你说的话）的地方，你还是不要用的好。

44.kickback轻松休息

A：

I'mreallybeat.IwishIcouldbekickingbackatthebeachrightnow.我好累。

要是现在可以在海滩放轻松休息休息多好。

B：

Me,too.我也是！

忙了一个礼拜，周末到了，终于可以暂时什么都不想，躺在沙发上，喝杯咖啡、看看自己喜欢的书，或是听听音乐、看看电视等，像这样“放轻松”就是这里说的"kickbackandrelax"。

还有一个词组叫"layback"，它的意思也是“放轻松”的意思。

45.okay不错的

A：

Howdoyoulikeyournewroommate?

你喜欢你的新室友吗？

B：

Heisanokayperson.Ilikehim.我喜欢他。

他这个人不错。

"okay"、"all-right"和"decent"都是指“不错的”的意思。

通常用来形容人的时候，有暗指和对方并不算熟识，但大致上说来，对方还算是个蛮不错的人。

"okay"还有一个用法是指一个东西的品质还可以（在可接受的范围内），但不算非常非常好。

好比常常我们可能会因为预算的关系，买了一个也许不是我们最想要的物品，但总算是自己觉得还可以的。

这时如果朋友问我们“你买了什么样的电视啊？

”我们就可以在回答他们品牌后，再补一句"Well,it'snotexactlymydreamTV.butit'sadecentone."（嗯，虽然不算是我梦想中的电视，不过也不错啦。

）要注意的是，上面这个用法是用在形容“事物”的时候，用"decent"来形容人时，并没有暗示对方不是最好的意
