InmarsatCequipmentisrelativelysmallandlightweight,andcostsmuchlessthananInmarsatAorB.InmarsatAandBshipearthstationsrequirerelativelylargegyro-stabilizedantennas;theantennasizeoftheInmarsatCismuchsmaller.InmarsatalsooperatesanEPIRBsystem,theInmarsatL,whichissimilartothatoperatedbyCOSPAS-SARSAT.

UnderacooperativeagreementwiththeNationalOceanicandAtmosphericAdministration(NOAA),combinedmeteorologicalobservationsandAMVERreportscannowbesenttoboththeUSCGAMVERCenter,andNOAA,usinganInmarsatCshipearthearthstation,atnocharge.ThereisalsonochargetoregisterforthisserviceandtoreceivethenecessaryInmarsatCsoftware.Formoreinformation,seetheNOAAShipboardEnvironmental(data)AcquisitionSystem,orSEAS.

5.AcknowledgementofareceivedDSCCall

Acknowledgementsshallnormallybetransmittedonthefrequencypairedwiththefrequencyofthereceivedcall.Ifthesamecallisreceivedonseveralcallingchannels,themostappropriatechannelshallbechosenfortransmissionoftheacknowledgement.

TheacknowledgementofaDSCcallistransmittedasfollows:

*Useatransmitterwhichistunedtotheappropriatefrequency.

-ifnotabletocomplyontheworkingfrequencysuggested,butabletocomplyimmediatelyonanalternativefrequency,thealternativeworkingfrequency;

-ifunabletocomplyimmediatelytheappropriateinformationinthatregard.
