摘要
在经济全球化的背景下,越来越多的中国企业走出国门、开展国际合作,商务英语在经贸活动中的作用不容忽视。
企业间流畅而有效的沟通能够更好地促进各方理解,为进一步的合作打下基石。
其中,译前准备对口译的成功起着至关重要的作用,是影响口译质量的一个关键的因素。
本课题提出以斯波伯(Sperber)和威尔逊(Wilson)的关联理论作为商务英语口译译前准备的理论基础,强调商务口译自身的特点,认为通过系统的译前准备可以更好地传达讲话者的意图并实现听话者的期望,从而实现成功的商务交际。
文章结构如下:
第一章是引言;第二章对商务口译、关联理论和口译译前准备做了文献综述;第三章详述了关联理论视角下商务英语口译前准备的涵义和分类;第四章从译出语的信息忠实度与流利程度阐释了关联理论在商务口译中的应用;最后一章就商务英语口译译前准备工作给出自己的建议。

ABSTRACT
BusinessinterpretingplaysanincreasinglyimportantroleinChinawiththerapidexpansionofitseconomiccooperationwithothercountriesandregionswiththebackdropofeconomicglobalization.Asatoolforpromotingmutualunderstandingandcommunicationbetweendifferentbusinesspartiesanddevelopinginternationalcooperation,interpretingforbusinessEnglishisgainingwiderpopularity.Preparations,anindispensablepartinthepracticeofinterpreting,willdeterminewhethertheinterpretingpracticeissuccessfulornottoagreatextent.
ThisthesisadoptsRelevanceTheoryproposedbySperberandWilsonasthetheoreticalbasisoftheinterpretationofbusinessEnglish,whichemphasizesbusinessinterpretinghasitsowncharacteristics,andpre-taskpreparationsshouldbedonesystematicallytobetterconveyspeaker’sintentionandrealizetheaudience’sexpectationtoachievesuccessfulbusinesscommunication.
ChapterOneisabriefintroduction.Thenliteraturereviewaboutbusinessinterpreting,RelevanceTheoryandpreparationsforinterpretinghasbeendoneinChapterTwo,onthebasisofwhich,thedefinitionandcategoriesofpre-taskpreparationsforbusinessinterpretingfromtheperspectiveofRelevanceTheoryarediscussedindetailsinChapterThree.ChapterFourattemptstoanalyzethefeaturesofbusinessEnglishandcriteriaofinterpretationforbusinessEnglishbasedonaccuracyandfluencyoftherenderings.ThelastChaptergivessomeimplicationsforbusinessEnglishinterpretingbeforeinterpreting.

AsChina’seconomyexperiencestherapiddevelopment,thestatusofbusinesscommunicationsandnegotiationsisincreasinglysignificantduringChina’seconomiccooperationwithforeigncompanies.Undersuchacircumstance,interpreterswhohaveoutstandinglanguageskillsandproficientinterpretationskillsarebecomingthenecessarypowerandkeyelementforbusinesscommunications.However,researchesonbusinessinterpretationsareperformingslowly,anditputsanegativeinfluenceuponChina’sfurtherdevelopment.Businessinterpretationisspecialandunique,butrelevantspecializedresearchespossessafrustratingamount.
Asweallknow,Businessinterpretingisanessentiallycomplexmulti-taskactivity.Fullpreparationplaysanimportantroleininterpreter’sperformanceasitenablestheinterpretertoquicklyfindoptimalrelevancebyaccurateandimmediateresponsetothereceivesinformation,sothatinterpretercouldreproducetheutteranceintargetlanguagecateringforthehearers’culturalandknowledgebackgroundbyproperdictionandinformationreorganization.
Pre-taskpreparationsmeanalottointerpreters,particularlyinterpretersinthebusinessfieldwhichcoversawiderangeofknowledge.Preparationsdonebyinterpretersbeforevarioustasksarebasedmoreontheirexperiencesthanscientifictheoreticalstudiesonpre-interpretingpreparations.Theoreticalpreparationsleadtosteadyinterpretingperformancewhichisanindicatorofaskilledinterpreter.
TheaimofthisthesisistostudytheimportanceofpreparationforbusinessinterpretinginlightofRelevanceTheoryproposedbySperberandWilson.Relevancetheorycanexertinfluencesonaccuracyandproductionfluencyintermsofproperspeakingspeed,fewbreakdownsandrepairsininterpretingforbusinessEnglishwithcertainprofessionalcontextandsensibleostensive-inferentialcommunication.

Whenitcomestobusinessinterpreting,itishardtofindanyreferenceinChina.TheauthoronlyfoundsixpapersinChineseonbusinesstranslation,mostofwhicharedealingwiththecharacteristicsofbusinesstextandthestatusquooflackingprofessionalbusinesstranslatorsorinterpretersasacontrasttohugedemandfortalentsinthisfieldasbusinesscooperationhasbeenexpandingquicklyinChinainrecentyears.
NoparticularstudyonbusinessinterpretinghasbeenfoundexceptforsometextbookslikeANewBusinessInterpretingCourse(ZhaoJunfeng,2000),whichismostaboutin-houseinterpreting.Thereforealackofstudyonbusinessinterpretingisoneproblemfacingthebusinesspartieswhotriedtoreachtheirdealsthroughthebridgeofinterpreting.
ThepaperwiththetitleoftheCharacteristicsandStatusQuoofBusinessTranslation(WangEnmian,2012)publishedontheauthoritativejournalChineseScience&TechnologyTranslatorsJournalrevealedthetwomajorcharacteristicsofbusinesstranslationorinterpreting:
oneisthatbusinesscoversabroadrangeoftopicssuchastrade,finance,businessnegotiation,insurance,accountingetc,thusrequiringbusinesstranslatorsorinterpreterstohaveagreatpoolofbusinessknowledge;theotheristhatbusinesstranslationorinterpretingattachesmoreimportancetotimelimitsduetothefrequentandfastchangeinthebusinessworld.Someexperiencedinterpreterstoldtheauthorthatbusinesscultureisanotherimportantelementinfluencingtheresultofbusinessinterpreting.Morestudiesneedtobemadeonbusinessinterpretingtomeettheincreasingdemandforqualitybusinessinterpreting.
2.2PreviousStudiesonRelevanceTheory
Inrecentyears,relevancetheoryhasattractedmoreandmoreattentionsfrominterpretingresearchersandpractitioners.Thereareabout18materthesesonapplicationofrelevancetheorytointerpretationcomingout,includingstudiesonthehearer’sinterpretationofconversationalimplicature,short-termpreparationsforcourtinterpretingofcriminalcasesandinterpretationatpressconferenceetc.Thesestudiesyieldedmanyenlighteningresults.
AlthoughrelevancetheoryproposedbySperberandWilsonwasprimarilyintendedtoaccountfortranslation,itcanalsobeappliedtointerpretationsinceinterpretationitselfisabasicformoftranslation.
Inrecentyears,severalstudieshavebeendoneonanalysisofinterpretingprocessfromtheperspectiveofrelevancetheory.Holdingthatrelevancetheorycanbringanewperspectivetointerpretationresearch,somescholarshavecommittedtothisareacontinuously.Theypointedoutthataccordingtothistheory,insteadofjustencoding-decodingprocess,interpretationcanberegardedasostensive-inferentialcommunicationwhichrequirestheinterpretertoactasbothinformationreceiverandinformationtransmitter.Inthisprocess,theinterpretershouldchoosethepropercontextandrelatethespeaker’sostensivestimuliwithhiscognitiveenvironmentstoinferthespeaker’sintention,andthentakeintoconsiderationthetargetaudiences’cognitiveenvironmentandintroducethisintentioneffectively.
Furtherstudiesoftheapplicationofrelevancetheoryininterpretationfocusingonculturalfactorshaveyieldedsomefruits.Interpretationstrategiesofdomesticationandforeignizationofostensionbasedontheprincipleofoptimalrelevancetohelpinterpretersbettergraspthenatureofinterpretationandmakethebestchoiceofwords.Theseresearchersholdthattheculturaldifferencesbetweendifferentnationsmaycausegreatmisunderstandingsandhinderlanguagecommunicationamongpeopleofdifferentnations.Whensuchculturalfactorsbecomethecommunicationbarrierbetweentheoriginalspeakerandthetargetaudience,theinterpreterasthebridgebetweentwolanguagesaswellastwoculturesshoulddohisorherutmosttorealizeoptimalrelevancebyachievingthelargestcontextualeffectswiththeleastprocessingeffortaspossiblewhileatthesametimepayingattentiontothechangingcontextaswellasidentifyingexplicaturesandimplicaturessoastonarrowthecultur
