Full-LengthArticles,Editorials,andPerspectivesarepeer-reviewed.Onlyfinelypolished,publicationready,manuscriptsshouldbesubmittedtothe 

orriskpossiblerejectionpriortopeerreview.

Afteraninitialreviewofthemanuscript,theEditor-in-ChiefdetermineswhetherthemanuscriptisappropriatefortheAJOandselectsanExecutiveEditorfromtheEditorialBoardwhoisanexpertinthefieldandwhowillberesponsibleforguidingthemanuscriptthroughthereviewprocess.TheExecutiveEditorthenselectsseveraloutsidereviewerstoensurethatatleasttworeviewsarecompleted.The 

AJOdoesnotrevealtheidentityofitsreviewers.

Oncethesereviewsarecompleted,theExecutiveEditorcritiquesandsynthesizesthecommentsofthereviewers,andprovidesadditionalExecutiveEditor'

scommentstotheEditor-in-Chief.TheEditor-in-Chiefreviewsthemanuscripttogetherwithallcommentsandmakesthepublicationdecision,whichisthene-mailedtotheCorrespondingAuthor,alongwithconsolidatedcommentsofthereviewersofthemanuscript.Becauseofspaceconstraintsintheprintedversion,onlyabout20%ofsubmittedFull-LengthArticlesareaccepted.TheAJOmightnotprovidecompletereviewofeachmanuscriptbutratherenoughofareviewtodetermineifacceptablefortheAJO. 

3.COPYRIGHTTRANSFERPREPARATION 

AfteracceptanceofamanuscriptbytheEditorialBoard,thepublisher,Elsevier,willsendtotheCorrespondingAuthortheformstocompletethetransferofcopyrighttoElsevier.DonotsendcopyrighttransferformstotheAJOoffice.ElsevierconformstotheNationalInstitutesofHealthandothergovernmentalopenaccesspolicies. 

4.PERMISSIONS
