NowIamintheprisoncafeteria.WhileIhavebeeninstructednottospeakwithanyoftheprisoners,Iamallowedtoobservethemwhiletheyareeating.Thecafeteriahastenlongtableswithtwentywomenseatedaroundeachoneonlowuncomfortable-lookingwoodenbenches.Themenuforlunchtodayincludesthefollowing:

ascoopofgray,lumpymashedpotatoes,asmallpieceofovercookedchicken,andahunkofstale-lookingbread.Freshfruitandvegetablesarenowheretobeseen.Needlesstosay,thereisnosalt,pepper,orothercondimentsavailabletothewomen,andtheyarenotpermittedtouseknivesorforks.Wateristheonlybeverageavailable.Itissafetosaythatthefocalbeingservedisnothealthy,andIwonderhowthesewomenareabletomaintaintheirstrengthandhealth.
