B.GroutorMortar

Whenrequiredorshownonthedrawings,mortarandgroutconsistingof1parthydrauliccementand2partssandwithsufficientwatertoprovidethedesiredconsistencyshallbeprovided.Mortarshallbeprovidedwithaconsistencythatcanbehandledeasilyandspreadbyatrowel.Groutshallbeprovidedwithaconsistencythatwillflowintoandcompletelyfillallvoids.

C.Latex

Whenrequiredanacrylic-polymerlatexadmixture(acrylicresinemulsioninaccordancewithTxDoTDMS-4640,“ChemicalAdmixturesforConcrete”)suitableforproducingpolymer-modifiedconcreteormortarshallbeprovided.Thelatexshallnotbeallowedtofreeze.

D.ReinforcingSteel

E.ExpansionJointMaterial

TheexpansionjointmaterialshallconformtotherequirementsofTxDoTDMS-6310,“JointMaterialsandFillers”.

1.PreformedFiberSheets

Unlessotherwiseindicatedonthedrawingspreformedbituminousfibermaterialshallbeprovided.Thepreformedfibermaterialshallconformtothedimensionsindicatedonthedrawings.PreformedfibersheetsshallmeettherequirementsofASTMD-1751,“PreformedExpansionJointFillerforConcretePavingandStructuralConstruction(NonextrudingandResilientBituminousTypes).Therequirementsrelatedtobitumencontent,densityandwaterabsorptionshallnotapplytononbituminousmaterials.

2.JointSealingMaterial

UnlessotherwiseindicatedonthedrawingsaClass4,5or7low-modulussiliconesealantshallbeprovidedthatconformstotherequirementsofTxDoTDMS-6310,“JointSealantsandFillers”.

3.TimberBoards

Timberboardsshallbemadefromredwoodorcypressandmustbefreefromsapwood,knots,clusteredbird’seye,checksandsplits.Whenovendriedat230oF(110oC)toaconstantweight(mass),thedensityoftheboardshallbebetween20and35lbs.Percubicfoot(between320and560kgspercubicmeter)

4.AsphaltBoard

AsphaltBoardshallconformtothedimensionsindicatedonthedrawingsandshallmeetthedescription,generalrequirementsanddistortiontestingofASTMD-994,“PreformedExpansionJointFillerforConcrete(bituminousType)”.

5.RebondedNeopreneFillerSheet

Rebondedneoprenefillershallconsistofgroundclosedcellneopreneparticles,rebondedandmoldedintosheetsofuniformthicknessofthedimensionsindicatedonthedrawings.ThesesheetsshallmeettherequirementsofASTMD-1752,TypeI.

ThemanufacturershallfurnishtheEngineerordesignatedrepresentativewithcertifiedtestresultsastothecompliancewiththeaboverequirements.

F.Waterstop

Unlessotherwiseindicatedonthedrawings,rubberwaterstopsorPolyvinylChloride(PVC)waterstopsthatconformtoTxDoTDMS-6160,“Waterstops,NylonReinforcedNeopreneSheet,andElastomericPads”shallbeprovided.

G.EvaporationRetardants

EvaporationretardantsshallconformtotherequirementsofTxDoTDMS-4650,“HydraulicCementConcreteCuringMaterialsandEvaporationRetardants”.Theevaporationretardantmustbeacommerciallyavailablemonomolecularfilmcompound.Theevaporationretardantshallhavenoadverseeffectonthecementhydrationprocessortheconcreteandshallreducesurfacemoistureevaporationfromtheconcretewhenperformingconcreteoperationsindirectsun,wind,hightemperatures,orlowrelativehumidity.Theproduceroftheevaporationretardantshallcertifythatitmeetsthesespecifiedrequirements.

H.CuringMaterials

1.LiquidMembraneFormingcompounds

LiquidMembraneFormingcompoundsshallconformtotherequirementsofTxDoTDMS-4650,“HydraulicCementConcreteCuringMaterialsandEvaporationRetardants”.Thecompoundshallbeappliedtodampconcreteasafinemistthroughatomizingnozzlesatawetfilmthicknessof8to9mils(200to230µ

m).Theliquidmembrane-formingcompoundmustnotreactdeleteriouslywithconcreteoritscomponents.Itmustproduceafirm,continuous,uniformmoisture-impermeablefilmthatisfreeofpinholes,cracks,orotherfilmdefects.Itmustalsoexhibitsatisfactoryadhesion.

Theconsistencymustbesuchthatthecompoundcanbeappliedsatisfactorilybyconventionalorairlesssprayatatmosphericandmaterialtemperaturesabove40oF(5oC)withoutthinning.Whenappliedatthemanufacturer'

srecommendedthickness,notlessthan8mils(200µ

m)wet,toverticalsurfacesofdampconcrete,thecompoundmustnotrunofforappreciablysag.Theliquidmembrane-formingcompoundmustnotdisintegrate,check,peel,orcrackduringtherequiredcuringperiod.Itmustnotpeelorpickupundertraffic,andmustdisappearfromthesurfaceofthecuredconcretebygradualdisintegration.

2.CottonMats

Cottonmatsshallconsistofafillingmaterialofcotton“bat”or“bats”[atleast12oz.Persquareyard(400gramspersquaremeter)]completelycoveredwithunsizedcloth[atleast6oz.Persquareyard(200gramspersquaremeter)]stitchedlongitudinallywithcontinuousparallelrowsofstitchingspacedatlessthan4in.(100mm),ortuftbothlongitudinallyandtransverselyatintervalslessthan3in.(75mm).

Thecottonmatsshallbefreefromtearsandingoodgeneralcondition.Aflapatleast6in.(150mm)widewithtwo

(2)thicknessesofthecoveringthatextendsalongonesideofthematshallbeprovided.

3.PolyethyleneSheeting

Thepolyethylenesheetingshallbeatleast4milsthick(0.1mm)andfreefromvisibledefects.Clearoropaquewhitesheetingshallbeprovidedwhentheambienttemperatureduringcuringexceeds60oF(15oC)orwhenapplicabletocontroltemperatureduringmasspours.

4.Burlap-PolyethyleneMats

Theburlap-polyethylenematsshallbemadefromburlapimpregnatedon1sidewithafilmofopaquewhite-pigmentedpolyethylene,freefromvisibledefects.Thelaminatedmatsshallhaveatleast1layerofanimperviousmaterialsuchaspolyethylene,vinylplastic,orotheracceptablematerial(eitherasasolidsheetorimpregnatedintoanotherfabric)andshallbefreeofvisibledefects.

I.ChemicalAdmixtures

Chemicaladmixturesincludingwaterreducing,placticizersandairentrainmentshallconformtoTxDoTDMS-4640,“ChemicalAdmixturesforConcrete”Calciumchlorideshallnotbeused.AdmixturesshallbeincludedintheprequalifiedconcreteadmixtureslistmaintainedbyTxDot’sConstructionDivision.

J.CityofAustinSurveyMonuments

ThePublicWorksDepartmentmayfurnishpermanentsurveymonumentstobecastinconcreteasindicatedonthedrawingsorasdirectedbytheEngineerordesignatedrepresentative.

K.Epoxy

Unlessindicatedotherwiseonthedrawings,epoxymaterialsshallconformtoTxDoTDMS-6100,“E
