1)M.J.Adler(1902~2001)
M.J.AdlerisanAmericaneducatorandwriter.BorninNewYorkCityandgraduatedfromColumbiaUniversity(Ph.D.,1928),hetaughtphilosophyandphilosophyoflawattheUniversityofChicagofrom1930until1952,whenhefoundedandbecamedirectoroftheInstituteforPhilosophicalResearchinSanFrancisco.WithRobertHutchins,Adlerorganizedin1946anadultdiscussiongroupprogramcenteredonthe“GreatBooks”ofthepastandeditedGreatBooksoftheWesternWorld(54volumes,1952).Adleralsoeditedthetwo-volumeindexandguidetotheideasinGreatBooks.In1969hebecamedirectorofplanningforthe15theditionofEncyclopaediaBritannicawhichwaspublishedin1974.
