4.用静态结构表示动作。

1）连系动词+表语

（1）表语为形容词的情况。

1.这些因素促使落在大地上的一半以上的水分直接返回到了大气层。

Thesefactorsareresponsibleforthedirectreturntotheatmosphereofmorethanhalfthewaterthatfallsontheland.

2.这个概念可应用于金属导体。

Thisconceptisapplicabletometallicconductors.

3.二极管可用作为整流器。

Adiodeisusefulasarectifier.

4.这个数可用8来除。

Thenumberisdivisible（=canbedivided）by8.

5.相继闪光之间的间隔是可以随意控制的。

（2）表语为名词的情况。

2）使用静态动词。

2.在这种情况下，电路中会形成电流。

3.几乎所有物质都可分成两大类。

5.多用短语代替从句可使句子简练。

1）用介词短语代替从句。

（1）代替原因、时间、条件状语从句。

Becauseofthelargesizeoftheearth（=Becausetheearthislargeinsize）,allthedownwardforcesexertedonthestonearevirtuallyparallel.

（2）代替定语从句。

1.Thatbuildingunderconstructionisanewcomputerfactory.

=Thatbuildingwhichisbeingbuiltisanewcomputerfactory.

2.TisatransformerwithmutualinductanceM.

=TisatransformerwhichhasmutualinductanceM.

（3）代替同位语从句。

Thisdevicehastheadvantagesoflightweightandlowcost.

=Thisdevicehastheadvantagesthatitislightinweightandlowincost.

2）用名词短语或动名词短语作主语代替状语从句。

1.Thetestingofmachinesbythismethodcauses/entailssomelossofpower.

=Ifmachinesaretestedbythismethod,therewillbesomelossofpower.

2.Athoroughexaminationoftheassumptionsrevealsthat…

=Iftheassumptionsarethoroughlyexamined,itcanberevealedthat…

3）用短语代替从句的其他情况。

1.Itisknownthatsilveristhebestconductor.

=Silverisknowntobethebestconductor.

（代替主语从句）

2.Thecurveshowshowoutputvarieswithinput.

=Thecurveshowsthevariationofoutputwithinput.

（代替宾语从句）

课堂练习：

用名词短语代替下列句子中的状语从句。

1.Ifsoundwavesarecomparedwithwaterwaves,itcanbeshownthattheyhavesomethingincommon.

2.Becausethereexistquanta,weareunabletodescribethemotionofatomicparticlesintheconventionalway.

3.IfthevalueofQweretoolarge,thedevicewouldbedamaged.

4.Becausesomeinertiaispresentedinthebulb,brightcolorscanbeobtained.

5.Inorderthattheoperationoftheamplifiercanbesatisfactory,itisrequiredthatpropervoltagesbeappliedtoitselectrodes.

6.使用科技上惯用的表达法。

1）表示定义的句型

（1）AisdefinedasB.

速度被定义为距离与时间之比。

Speedisdefinedastheratioofdistancetotime.

能量被定义为物体做功的能力。

Energyisdefinedastheabilityofabodytodowork.

（2）ByAismeantB.

ByAwe/onemean（s）B.

（所谓）弹性指的是物体形变后返回原状的趋势。

By“elasticity”ismeantthetendencyofanobjecttoreturntoitsoriginalstateafterbeingdeformed.

（所谓）线性工作放大器以很小的失真或无失真地放大信号的能力。

By“linearoperation”ismeanttheabilityofanamplifiertoamplifyasignalwithlittleornodistortion.

（3）a/an/the+可数名词+isa/an/the+类别词+后置定语

如果被定义的名词是不可数名词，那么前面就不用冠词。

力是能够影响物体运动的物理量。

Aforceisaphysicalquantitythatcanaffectthemotionofanobject.

气压计是用以测量空气压力的一种仪表。

Abarometerisaninstrumentwhichisusedformeasuringairpressure.

2）表示“Ａ与Ｂ之间的关系由Ｃ来表示”的句型。

（１）AandBarerelatedbyC.

（２）AisrelatedtoBbyC.

（３）TherelationshipbetweenAandBisexpressedbyC.

电流与电压的关系可用下式表示。

Currentandvoltagearerelatedbytheequationwhichfollows.

该力与位移之间的关系用虎克定律（Hook’slaw）来表示。

TheforceanddisplacementarerelatedbyHook’slaw.

3）表示“…的方法是…”及“其方法是…”的句型。

（1）表示“…的方法是…”的句型：

…is+过去分词+by短语

通常克服这一困难的方法是允许触发器迅速翻转。

Thisdifficultycanusuallybeovercomebyallowingtheflip-floptotogglerapidly.

调整这个作用的方法是改变外加电压。

Thisactionisadjustedbyalteringtheappliedvoltage.

（2）表示“其方法是…”的句型：

Thisisdone（=accomplished/achieved/obtained）by…

其方法是把一个正弦波加到两个垂直板上。

Thisisdonebyapplyingonesinewavetothetwoverticalplates.

六．在科技论文中应避免使用缩略形式。

例如：

we’ll→weshall

can’t→cannot

don’t→donot

it’s→itis/ithas

练习：

1.将下面段落译成英语

我们在后面将会看到，一个物体在转动期间保持在某个地方是可能的。

值得一提的是，一切物体普遍经历的那种运动是平动（translation）和转动（rotation）的结合。

但尚不清楚究竟如何来分析这种运动。
